HOW TO MAKE LACE FRONTAL LOOK NATURAL
Wearing a lace front wig is a great way to spruce up your look, the most effective way of making your lace front wig look more natural is to lay your edges using a gel. You can cut your own edges to create a more natural look using a razor or eyebrow scissors, you can cut your lace front wig hair along the front hairline into shorter pieces to create edges. However, most lace front wigs come with precut edges.
The elements that determine how natural your lace front wig looks on you, begin from your purchase decision. Let’s get right into each step to help you make sure that your lace front looks as natural as possible.
- Purchase A Lace Front Wig with The Right Colored Base.
The joy of the lace front wig is that there is parting flexibility along the front of the wig, from ear to ear. This, however, means that the wig base will be exposed when a part is formed. This is one of the elements that can be a clear giveaway that you are wearing a wig.
When purchasing your wig, be sure to choose a base that is closest, in color, to your natural complexion. For instance, if you are light in complexion and choose a dark chocolate wig base, it would be a clear indication that you are wearing a wig. Instead, choose something that is closer to your complexion so that it looks like a natural part of your natural hair. However, it is not always extremely easy to find a wig base to suit your skin tone, we recommend either of the two below:
Fabric Dye. This is an extremely uncommon method of modifying your wig base but works extremely well. Simply use a fabric dye that is as close to your skin tone as possible and carefully dye the parts of the wig base that are visible to make them appear more natural. This includes your front lace pieces that fall on your forehead.
Fake Scalp. The fake scalp is something like a wig cap. It can be used beneath the wig to create the illusion of the scalp beneath the wig base. This is perfect for the translucent wig bases. Also, make it a priority to ensure that your fake scalp is the right color or this can have the complete opposite effect.
- Purchase The Correct Wig Size.
Wig size is an extremely important factor when it comes to the appearance of a wig on the wig wearer. Wearing the wrong wig size could be a clear indication that someone is wearing a wig. If the wig is too small, it would slip back revealing the wearer’s natural hair or wig cap, and if it’s too big, it usually slides to the sides which creates a very abnormal look, hence, be sure to measure your head using the wig measurement indicators, before you purchase a wig, to ensure that you purchase the right sized wig and the table below can be a guide in the buying decision.
Method: |
Description: |
Ear to Ear (around the front of the head) |
Using a measuring tape, measure your head from one ear to the other. Trail the measuring tape across the front of the head, along your hairline, and record your findings. |
Ear to Ear (around the back) |
Follow the same instructions as the previous step, except this time trail the tape along the back of your head, following your hairline. |
Ear to Ear (over the top) |
Same as previously described, this time trailing the tape over the top of your head. |
Temple To Temple |
Measure your head from one temple to the other. Trail the measuring tape across the front of the head, across your forehead, and record your findings. |
Circumference |
Measure your head from beginning at one ear. Trail the measuring tape right around your head, ending at the same spot, and record your findings. |
Hairline To Nape |
Measure your head starting from the center of your hairline on your forehead. Trail the measuring tape over the top of your head, ending at the nape of your neck, and record your findings. |
- Ensure That the Hair Color and Style Suites You
Have you ever seen someone who has recently dyed their natural hair and the color itself just makes the hair appear fake? This can happen with wigs as well. Some colors and styles can be a clear giveaway that you are wearing a wig.
Do some research on the best hair colors and style for your face shape and complexion before purchasing a wig our professional stylist. This is such an added bonus! Going into a wig store knowing exactly what suits you and will complement your features will help ensure that your lace front wig appears as natural as possible.
- Prepare Your Natural Hair Correctly
One of the most common elements that expose that someone is wearing a wig is the wig wearer’s natural hair being exposed in certain areas. This is also a clear indication of poor hair preparation when fitting the wig. Ensure that all of your natural hair, including your edges, is properly tucked beneath a wig cap. Taking this step seriously will ensure that none of your natural hair is exposed resulting in your lace front wig appearing less natural.
- Cut Your Lace to Suit Your Face Shape
The lace front range has the ability to customize the wig to suit you. Most lace front wigs come with the front lace uncut, and this is probably the best way to purchase it.
Cut your frontal lace in the shape of your natural hairline, keeping a 2mm distance from the base of the wig. Doing this will ensure that the wig mimics your natural hairline and suits the shape of your face. When your wig suits your face shape, it has a more natural appearance.
- Modify Your Edges
One of the main reasons behind some wig wearers leaving their natural hair out is to leave out edges to create a natural-looking appearance. This doesn’t really work because the texture between your natural hair and your wig hair is quite different.
Instead, modify your lace front edges to your desired look. If need be, cut your own edges to create a more natural look. Most lace front wigs come with precut edges. This is great as it makes it so much easier for the wig wearer to set their wig hair edges for a more natural appearance. However, not all lace front wigs come with precut edges.
All is not lost though, because you can most definitely cut your own edges! Using a razor or eyebrow scissors, you can cut your lace front wig hair along the front hairline into shorter pieces to create ‘edges’. This could look really good once achieved but could also go horribly wrong if not done correctly.
This is why extreme caution has to be taken when attempting to cut your own edges on your lace front wig!
