For someone like me, color, length, density and whether the wig is curly or straight matters a lot. I am very sure that a lot of ladies share the same thoughts as me on this. Wigs are an essential part of most lady’s collections; thus, it should be taken seriously.
Wigs add to your glow when you dress up. It gives you confidence, because you automatically feel complete and beautiful. Oh! how I love wigs…

Personally, I think you first need to know what type of wig you want before you even step out of your abode for wig shopping. Shopping is less stressful when you know what you want…
Now, to the main details… what you should look out for when shopping for wigs:

Depending on your budget, you can either buy:
- Virgin hair
- Fibre Hair OR
- A blend of the former two mentioned above.

The type of wig you want really matters when you set out to buy a wig. Be sure if you want a:
- Curly
- Wavy
- Kinky/Afro

It is said that shorter wigs are easier to maintain than longer ones. To me, it depends on your knowledge and experience on how to maintain wigs.

The color of wig you buy is very important. Go for a color that flatters your skin tone. Hold the wig up against your face in natural light to check how best it goes with your skin. Every lady should have at least one wig that blends well with her skin.

5. DENSITY OF THE WIG
The fullness of a wig you are about to buy is very important. Where do you live? What’s the climate like? Do you have to take heat or the cold into consideration? Where do you feel will you be wearing the wig to most (what occasion)?
Asides your personal comfort, the fullness of wigs completely changes your entire look, for example, your look can be changed from an everyday look to a full-blown party look, from formal look to a holiday look with more or less volume.
6. TYPE OF WIG CAP
The construction of the cap is a very important thing to look out for when buying a wig. The front part of the wig is usually constructed with either lace or silk.
You will need to decide:
- Lace front
- Closure
- 360o frontal
- Side parting
- Centre parting
- Shiftable parting
After deciding on the above, you need to be sure the wig suits the shape of your face.
The silk closure is made with a silk base, where the individual strands of the hair are embedded into the silk with a layer of lace. The knots are not visible because they are embedded in that layer of silk, giving a more scalp-like appearance.
Just think about how flexible you want your wig to be and how important a more natural look is to you.
7. SIZE OF WIG CAP/BAND
This is an important thing to look out for as everyone has a different sized head, and it’s important to find a wig that sits comfortably. If you’re buying in person, ensure to try it on. If you’re buying online, check the measurement against the circumference of your head. Most wigs have adjustable straps, which makes it easier to find the right size.
