HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR WEAVE AND WIG

  • WEAVE

A Weave is human or fibre hair integrated with one's natural hair, they are also referred to as hair extensions.

Whether your weave is made of human, synthetic, or virgin hair, the general care is the same and routine maintenance will help you keep it looking and feeling great.

MAINTENANCE

Keeping Your Weave Clean

For your Fibre hair, please take to a professional for proper maintenance.

  • Wash your weave with shampoo regularly
  • Opt for sulfate-free shampoos, which are gentler on your weave.
  • Deep condition your weave often to keep it looking good

Drying and Styling Your Weave

  • Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle:
    • Working with wet, just-conditioned hair will make combing easier.
    • Start combing at the bottom and gently work your way up until the weft is tangle-free.
    • Be very gentle, if you pull too hard, you can loosen the weft and even damage your natural hair to the point it falls out.
  • Dry your hair thoroughly:
    • Weaves can get moldy and smell like mildew if left damp. To avoid this, be sure to dry your weave completely any time you get it wet.
    • If possible, let it air dry. If you must use a hair dryer, use the lowest heat setting.
    • Heat can loosen the bonds of your weave, so limit the use of heat-styling tools as much as you can.
  • Visit your stylist once a month:
    • Visiting your stylist often for professional maintenance will keep your weave fresh-looking. The stylist will trim any broken hairs, tighten loose braids, and make sure the weft is secure and your natural hair is healthy.

Protecting Your Weave

  • Cover your hair when sleeping
    • Human and virgin hair weaves should be taken care of as if they were your own hair: brushed and packed underneath a satin scarf before bed
  • Give your hair a break:
    • Weaves last anywhere from six to 12 weeks, depending on the weave and how well you care for it. When it is time to take out your current weave, be prepared to wait two to four weeks before installing a new one. Your hair needs that break to avoid being permanently damaged.

WIG

A wig is a head or hair accessory made from human hair or synthetic fiber. They come in different styles, lengths, and textures and it can be either factory made or weave wigged into desired styles for easy wear or convenience.

MAINTENANCE

  • It is hygienic to wear a wig cap to cover your own natural hair before putting on a wig
  • Wash your wig 1 to 2 times a month if you wear it every day.
  • Detangle before washing with wide teethed comb from hair tips to root.
  • Never comb roughly from the hair root, that will cause shedding.
  • After washing a wig, do not squeeze it in a towel
  • While washing your hair, never use shampoo meant for natural hair.
  • You can condition your hair every couple of weeks or so, to keep it shiny and soft.
  • Never use hot water or cold water when washing. Hot water may loosen the wig construction, and cold water is not good for removing the dirt… warm water is advised.
  • Always rinse human hair with the water flowing in the same direction of the hair to avoid matting and tangles.
  • When washing, pay special attention to the area around the face which accumulate dirt, oil, and makeup.
  • While you're at home, take it off and put it on a wig stand to avoid tangling
  • Be gentle when combing a wig
  • Avoid too much heat
  • Treat your hair as recommended by your stylist
  • Have at least two wigs to alternate so as to give the other a break.
  • Visit your salon/ stylist regularly:
    • Visiting your stylist often for professional maintenance will keep your wig fresh-looking.
    • The stylist will trim any broken hairs, tighten loose braids, and make sure the weft is secure and your natural hair is healthy
